How to apply a Transparency Gradient to an Object
Step 1
Select an object and click the Object Transparency tool. And then choose a gradient type and drag the nodes to set the gradient arrow in an image window.
Step 2
Click on a node, and move the Node Transparency Slider to set the transparency value.

The transparency tool needs an "object" to be applied on.
To create an object do the following:
1)Mask some area on the canvas. 2) (With the mask still there) go to Object> Create new object from this mask. Then, you will have an object, and on THIS object you can apply thw transparency.
